AvoCall vs Google Voice: FAQ
- Is Google Voice free?
- For personal use in the US, yes: the free plan includes calling and texting on a separate number and needs an existing US mobile number. As of October 2026 Google also sells individual plans at $10 and $20 a month, and Workspace plans from $10 per user per month on top of a Workspace subscription.
- Can I use Google Voice outside the US?
- Google's free and individual Voice plans are only available in the US, and the free plan needs an existing US mobile number to set up. Workspace plans cover 14 countries, including Canada and the UK.
- Will Google Voice take my number back?
- It can. Google may reclaim a free number after 3 months without calls or texts, and you then have 45 days to recover it. Google says paid Starter numbers are not reclaimed for inactivity.
- Do I need a second SIM card or phone for AvoCall?
- No. AvoCall is an app on the iPhone or Android phone you already have. Calls and texts run over Wi-Fi or mobile data, so there is no second SIM and no second device.
- Can I get verification codes on an AvoCall number?
- Verification-text compatibility varies by sender. Some services send codes to app-based numbers and some do not, so AvoCall never guarantees that a specific code will arrive.
