How to Get a Second Number on iPhone Without a SIM

Use an app for a second US or Canada number on iPhone. Check beta installation, signup eligibility, pricing and the difference from a carrier eSIM line.

A second-number app lets you add a US or Canada number to your iPhone without another SIM. Its calls and texts use Wi-Fi or mobile data inside the app. Your existing carrier number stays on its current line. A carrier eSIM is a different option if you need a second mobile line in Apple's Phone and Messages apps.

AvoCall's iPhone install link currently opens TestFlight beta. Install and test it before depending on it. The free offer advertised for eligible new Android accounts is not an iPhone free-plan promise.

A data-only travel eSIM is a separate case: it supplies internet access, not an ordinary voice-and-SMS line. See travel eSIM vs US number app.

Set up AvoCall on your iPhone

  1. Check new-account eligibility. Mobile-app signup currently requires a supported mobile number and an internet location in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Ireland. You must receive a signup code on that mobile number.
  2. Install the beta. Open the iPhone installation page, install TestFlight if prompted, and follow its AvoCall installation instructions. Beta access can change.
  3. Choose an available number. Search by area code or city. Seeing a number on the site does not reserve it.
  4. Review the plan before paying. Use the price and renewal terms shown in the app or at web checkout. If you buy on the website, follow the post-purchase instructions to log in with the same account and attach the purchase.
  5. Allow notifications. In iPhone Settings, check Notifications, then AvoCall. Test an incoming call and an ordinary text with the app in the background.
  6. Try Wi-Fi and mobile data. Call quality depends on the connection. Mobile data charges can still apply.

Calls and texts sent from AvoCall use your AvoCall number. Calls placed from your carrier line use that line's caller ID; choose the intended app before dialing.

Know the limits before sharing the number

AvoCall+ includes US and Canada calling and texting under the fair use policy. International calls use wallet credit at the displayed per-minute rate; there are no included international minutes. Check current pricing rather than assuming the web and in-app prices are identical.

Supported verification-text visibility is a paid benefit, and some banks or apps refuse virtual numbers regardless of plan. Read the verification-text guide and keep a tested recovery method for important accounts.

AvoCall does not offer emergency calling or number port-in. Your app number is retained while you remain subscribed. Keep your carrier service if you depend on its number or emergency access.

When a carrier eSIM makes more sense

Choose a suitable carrier plan when you need a second mobile line in the native phone apps or need a number type that a particular sender accepts. Check device, regional and carrier support first. Apple's Dual SIM documentation explains compatible iPhones, eSIM support and line selection. Device capabilities vary by model and market.

You can also keep your carrier line and use an app number alongside it. Decide which service handles calls, which supplies data and which number you give to each contact.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have two numbers on one iPhone without another SIM?

Yes. A second-number app provides a separate number for calls and texts inside the app over Wi-Fi or mobile data. It does not replace your carrier line or add a number to iMessage.

How do I install AvoCall on iPhone?

The current iPhone installation link opens TestFlight, Apple's beta distribution app. Follow that page's installation steps and confirm beta availability before purchasing.

Is AvoCall's free plan available on iPhone?

The free, ad-supported offer is currently for eligible new Android accounts. Do not assume the iPhone beta includes it. Check the plan options and price shown in the app or at web checkout.

Can I move an existing number into AvoCall?

Not currently. AvoCall provides a new US or Canada number selected by area code or city and does not accept number port-ins.
