If you need a new US number abroad, check signup eligibility before comparing features. An app that works over Wi-Fi after setup may still restrict where you can open an account. AvoCall can be an option for eligible users who want a new US or Canada number. It is not a way to register from every country, preserve an existing Google Voice number, or guarantee bank codes.
This guide focuses on getting a new number. If you need to retain the exact digits you already use, start with keeping your US number abroad.
First decide what you need the number for
| Your situation | What to check first | Where AvoCall fits |
|---|---|---|
| You already have a working Google Voice number | Whether your current service supports your use while traveling | A separate number is optional; AvoCall cannot take over that number |
| You want a new number for family or personal contacts | Signup country, mobile verification and device support | A new US or Canada number in the app |
| Your main goal is bank login codes | The bank's accepted number types and backup authentication | No guaranteed compatibility; keep a dependable recovery method |
| You need a US number but are outside supported signup countries | The provider's current eligibility rules | New AvoCall mobile-app signup may be unavailable |
Google's personal Voice setup guide describes choosing a number in the US and verifying a phone by text. Personal Voice and business Voice have different offerings; do not assume a business feature or country list applies to the personal service.

Check these AvoCall requirements before buying
Location and mobile number. New mobile-app registration currently checks both your mobile number's country and your internet connection's country. The supported countries are the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland. You must be able to receive the signup code on a supported mobile number. Existing-account access is a separate flow; do not create a replacement account just because you are traveling.
Installation. Android is available through Google Play. The current iPhone install link opens Apple's TestFlight beta. Beta availability can change, so install and test the app before depending on it abroad.
Number choice. Browse area codes or cities. Inventory changes. A listed number is not reserved by viewing the page, and availability is confirmed during checkout and activation.
Price and allowances. Check current pricing on the surface where you will buy. AvoCall+ includes US and Canada calling and texting under the fair use policy. International calls use separate wallet credit at the displayed per-minute rate; there are no included international minutes. The free, ad-supported offer is currently for eligible new Android accounts, not an iPhone free-plan promise.
Test the actual job you need it to do
Before giving out a new number, place a call, receive a call and exchange ordinary texts with someone you know. Try mobile data as well as Wi-Fi. Allow notifications and confirm incoming calls reach you while the app is in the background.
If a login code matters, use the sender's supported setup and keep its recovery options available. Read virtual numbers and verification texts before moving important accounts. A successful ordinary SMS is not proof that a bank's short-code message will arrive.
AvoCall needs internet access and does not provide emergency calling. Keep an appropriate local mobile service for emergencies. If internet access is the missing piece, compare a travel eSIM with a US number app.
Before you switch
- Confirm eligibility and install the app on your actual phone.
- Check pricing, number availability and the verification limitations above.
- Test calls and texts before sharing the number broadly.
- Keep your old service until every account that depends on it has a working alternative.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sign up for AvoCall from any country?
No. New mobile-app signup currently requires a supported mobile number and an internet connection located in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Ireland. Having Wi-Fi abroad does not by itself make a new account eligible.
Can AvoCall replace my existing Google Voice number?
AvoCall provides a new US or Canada number. It does not currently accept number port-ins, so it cannot preserve your exact Google Voice number. Keep your existing service active if you need that number.
Does a US virtual number guarantee bank verification texts?
No. Senders decide whether to accept virtual numbers. AvoCall+ includes visibility of supported verification texts, but delivery is not guaranteed; the free plan does not include verification-text visibility.
